History

Government Degree College, Seethanagaramwas established in 1983-84 by Government of Andhra Pradesh.  It is located on the Eastern side of the Holy River,

the Godavari in East Godavari District. The College is situated in a predominantly rural and educationally backward area and is intended to meet the academic needs of students belonging to Scheduled Castes, Scheduled Tribes and Backward classes. The District Collector, East Godavari certified the same in his certificate dated 4^th August, 1998. Perhaps this College had the privilege of having its own building constructed in a very short time with the generous contributions from the public in a sprawling 10 acres of land donated by not less than 120 people of this area, with the sole aim of providing education to the underprivileged youth of this region. Right in front of the famous the then Gowthami Satyagrahasharam this College was established. In the pre-independence period this Ashram was visited by Mahatma Gandhiji in 1929 & 1933. Many people from this area participated in the Independence Movement.

B) Details of Affiliation:

The college is affiliated to Adikavi Nannaya University, Rajamahendravaram. It offers B.A, B.Com and B.Sc. Courses with 193 students on its roll. The College is accredited with B grade by NAAC in 2016. Rs. 2 crores was sanctioned by the RUSA for achieving NAAC B grade. It will be utilized for the construction of new buildings and equipment for the College in the coming months.   The College is recognized with both 2(f) and 12 (B) sections under UGC Act 1956. This is the only Government Degree College in this Legislative Assembly Constituency comprising 3 Mandals and the nearest Government Degree College is situated at Rajamahendravaram at a distance of 25 kms. The College was established in 1983 with B.A. and B.Com courses. During the academic year 2016-17, B.Sc. (MPC & BZC) courses were started. The College is planning to introduce B.Com (C.A) and B.Sc. Computer Science in near future.

C) Progress of Institution since establishment:

Since the establishment, the college has been striving hard imparting good educational standards to the needy. Many of its Alumni settled in life in various positions. The efforts of the College Principal and the staff could convince the people’s representatives of this area and secured the release of funds for the construction of 4 additional class rooms by Sri Srinivasa Charity Trust, Kakinada, with the blessings of the local honorable member of the Legislative Assembly. Now the building is in use.

Introduction of the employable courses is the need of the hour. Services to the students of marginalized sections of society of this area could be improved by introducing employable courses and enhancing infrastructural facilities in the college. The student strength shall even reach 500 if proper upliftment will be given to the college.

The college had rendered 37 years of yeomen service to the student community in offering undergraduate courses.  The teaching-learning process is transacted through a well carved out system. Institutional time table including slots for skill-based training; sports & games; library utilization etc., is framed and distributed among students and staff. All the Heads of the Departments ensure that classes are conducted scrupulously following the time table. Programme Coordinator system is employed to make sure that all the instruction is carried out in all subjects of the programme.

The institution emerged as a platform for breeding quality human resources with social responsibility and ethical values too. The faculty is encouraged to attend and conduct RCs, OCs, FDPs, Seminars, Workshops, Conferences etc., to keep themselves abreast of emerging and latest knowledge in their domains.

The modern and well equipped student supporting facilities especially, Jawahar Knowledge, NSS, Red Ribbon Club etc., are serving as launch pads for equipping the students with necessary skills that enable them scale newer heights in   their educational and job careers. The institution fortifies teaching – learning activity with the latest ICT infrastructure through digital class rooms and virtual class room.

The library is teeming with around 10230 physical text and reference books with Spacious reading room.

The college makes concerted efforts in the physical and mental development of the students and local community too. The college has around 10 acres of land with a big play ground for sports and games, a gymnasium, a shuttle play ground, a 250 metre long running track. The students and local community are provided access to these facilities. Many a student of this college were selected for various jobs by utilizing these facilities. Mr K.Chayaratnam and Mr. S.Suresh who were the students of the College got selected for the Police Constable post by utilizing the above facilities.
